How to Regrow Thinning Hair and a Bald Crown Naturally Using Onion, Ginger, Rosemary, Pumpkin Seed & Gotu Kola

A powerful Caribbean herbal scalp spray that feeds starving roots, stimulates circulation, and creates the right environment for thicker, fuller hair to return — even on a thinning crown.

Most men wait too long. By the time they start looking for answers, the crown is already shiny, the hairline has moved back, and they have convinced themselves it is simply genetics and nothing can be done. That belief is the first problem.

The second problem is that when men do eventually try something, they reach for the wrong things — heavy oils that sit on top of the scalp without doing anything useful, or commercial products full of chemicals that irritate more than they help.

Hair thinning and crown baldness are rarely just about genetics. Stress, poor circulation, nutritional deficiency, scalp congestion, and years of neglect all play a role. And when you address those things properly — with the right herbs, consistently — the scalp responds. It is not always fast. But it responds.

This is the herbal scalp spray Grandma has been making for years. Strong herbs, brewed properly, sieved and bottled. Simple to make. Serious results when used consistently.

What each herb does

🧅 Onion Rich in sulfur, which is one of the building blocks of hair. Onion supports stronger strands, reduces thinning, and has been shown to help stimulate regrowth in dormant follicles when applied consistently to the scalp.
🫚 Fresh Ginger Contains gingerols that stimulate blood circulation directly to the scalp. Better circulation means more nutrients reaching weak, underfed roots — which is exactly what a thinning crown needs.
🌿 Rosemary One of the most studied herbs for hair growth. Rosemary supports blood flow to the follicles, helps reduce scalp inflammation, and wakes up tired and stressed scalp areas that have stopped supporting healthy growth.
🌰 Pumpkin Seed Rich in zinc and phytosterols that support a healthy scalp environment. Pumpkin seed helps block the hormonal activity that contributes to male pattern thinning, making it particularly valuable for men.
🍃 Gotu Kola A powerful healing herb that strengthens the connective tissue around the follicle. Gotu kola improves scalp circulation, supports collagen production, and helps create a stronger, healthier foundation for hair to grow from.
💧 Rice Water Fermented rice water is rich in inositol, which penetrates the hair shaft and helps reduce breakage and surface damage. It also adds a protective coating to each strand, improving strength and shine over time.

What you need

1 wholeMedium onion, chopped
1 thumbFresh ginger, roughly sliced
3–4Fresh rosemary sprigs
2 tbspPumpkin seeds
1 tbspDried gotu kola herb
½ cupFermented rice water
3 cupsWater

How to prepare it

  • 1Roughly chop the onion and slice the ginger — no need to be precise, you are releasing the compounds not plating a dish
  • 2Add the chopped onion, sliced ginger, rosemary sprigs, pumpkin seeds, and gotu kola into a blender
  • 3Add half a cup of water and blend everything into a rough herbal paste — it does not need to be smooth, just broken down enough to release the active compounds
  • 4Transfer the blended paste into a large clean bowl or pot
  • 5Boil the remaining water and pour it directly over the herbal paste — the heat draws the active compounds out of the herbs and into the liquid
  • 6Stir everything together well so the herbs are fully submerged in the hot water
  • 7Cover the bowl with a cloth or lid and allow it to steep for at least 4 to 6 hours — overnight is even better. The longer it steeps, the stronger and more potent your spray will be
  • 8After steeping, strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean jug or bowl — press the herbs firmly to extract every last drop of liquid
  • 9Add the fermented rice water to the strained liquid and stir to combine
  • 10Pour the finished spray into a clean dark spray bottle — dark glass or dark plastic helps preserve the potency of the herbs

Store in the refrigerator. Use within 5 to 7 days and make a fresh batch after that. Do not leave it out at room temperature once bottled.

How to apply it

  • Part the hair to expose the thinning areas and bald crown directly
  • Spray the herbal liquid generously directly onto the scalp — do not spray onto the hair lengths, you want it on the skin
  • Use your fingertips to massage in slow firm circular motions immediately after spraying — the massage is not optional, it is what drives circulation and helps the herbs absorb properly
  • Focus extra attention on the crown, the hairline, and any areas where thinning is most visible
  • Do not rinse out — leave it to absorb fully and dry naturally
  • Apply on a dry or slightly damp scalp, not a wet one — a wet scalp dilutes the spray before it can absorb

The onion smell will fade as it dries. If it bothers you, add three to four drops of peppermint or lavender essential oil to the bottle before use — it neutralises the scent without reducing the effectiveness.

How often to use it

Apply every day or every other day — consistency is what makes this work. The scalp needs repeated stimulation and nourishment before dormant follicles begin to respond. Missing days and restarting is what stops most people from ever seeing results.

Support the spray from the inside too. Eat foods that feed the hair — leafy greens, avocado, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, eggs. Drink enough water. Sleep properly. The scalp is part of the body, and the body needs to be nourished from within before it can grow healthy hair from the outside. Both together is what produces real change.

What to expect and when

Weeks 1–3
Scalp feels less dry and irritated. Itching and flaking begin to reduce. The scalp starts to feel nourished rather than neglected.
Weeks 4–6
Fine baby hairs may begin to appear along the hairline and at the crown edges. Existing hair feels stronger and less fragile.
Month 3–4
Visible improvement in crown coverage. Hair looks fuller and thicker at the roots. Continued use builds on this progressively.

Results are not guaranteed to be the same for everyone — the condition of the scalp, how long the thinning has been happening, and how consistently the remedy is used all play a role. But for most people who stay consistent, something does shift. And that shift is worth the patience.

Frequently Asked Question

Can this spray be used on completely bald areas with no hair at all? Yes — apply it directly to the scalp skin. The herbs work at the follicle level, not the strand level, so hair does not need to be present for the spray to be effective. However, follicles that have been dormant for many years are harder to reactivate than those that have only recently stopped producing hair. The earlier you start, the better the outcome.

The roots are not dead. In most cases, they are simply starved, ignored, and waiting for someone to pay attention to them properly.

Brew it. Sieve it. Spray it. Massage it in. Do it again tomorrow. That is how this works.
